Perhaps it is easier to say what spirituality is not.  It is not the following, though they can flow from it and are a necessary expression of it:-

• Active works of service to others.
• Social gatherings and leisure activities.
• Our daily work.
• Intellectual study about spirituality or metaphysics.

So what's left?

• Individual connecting with God.
• Corporate connecting with and sharing in God.

The individual connection must come first. One cannot forever ride passenger on the faith of others: sooner or later the individual must take responsibility for a personal connection with God.
